Lampshades in Frodsham

Welcome to Shadowbright. This is my first blog post on my new website. I will try and update this as regularly as possible.

For my first post I thought I would tell you a bit about myself and Shadowbright. I am Elaine and I live with my husband (Mark) and 2 kids. Until recently we lived in Manchester but are now living near Frodsham in Cheshire. Here is picture of my new studio.

I started Shadowbright about 6 years ago after I had been made redundant. I used to work in a bank and I worked there for 13 years. Being made redundant came at a good time as I was pregnant and I didn't really want to go back to the bank.

My grandad was a carpenter and made beautiful turned wooden lamp bases. I am lucky enough to have a few of them in my house. I was looking for lampshades for them for years but I couldn't find anything that I liked. In the end I made my own. I went to courses to learn how to make lampshades and how to hand sew them. Here is a picture of one of my grandad's lamp bases. This is probably my favourite.

After a while I have realised that I have a great interest in textiles and fabric design. I have started making some cushions and lampshades with some of my original designs. There will be lots more designs coming soon.
