Behind the Stitch – How Every Shadowbright Piece Is Made

Welcome to the heart of Shadowbright – where design, colour and craftsmanship come together to brighten your home. I’m Elaine, the founder and maker behind the brand, and I’d love to take you behind the scenes of how each piece is created.

Our Story

Shadowbright began back in 2015 with a simple idea: to make contemporary home decor pieces that you wouldn’t find on the high street. From early on I’ve designed every pattern in house, influenced by architecture, geometry and design aesthetics from the past four decades.

What you’ll find are bold shapes, bright colours and pieces that feel fresh, unexpected and handcrafted.

Design & Pattern Creation

Everything starts with pattern. I sketch and develop designs inspired by retro architecture, mid-century lines, geometric designs and even children’s illustration. Once a pattern is finalised, I send it to print — all fabrics are printed here in the UK using environmentally-friendly inks and eco-conscious methods.
This ensures that from the outset, every Shadowbright piece carries a unique design identity and strong environmental values.

Fabrication & Craftsmanship

When the fabric arrives, it’s time for the hands-on work. In my Cheshire studio I select the printed textiles and cut them with precision for each product: whether a lampshade, a cushion, a make-up bag or a tea towel.

Expanding Beyond Lampshades

While lampshades remain our best-selling piece, I wanted to build a broader collection — cushions, tea towels, coasters, makeup bags — all carrying the same design roots and craftsmanship ethos.
Each accessory gives you the chance to carry the design mood through your home, not just in one lamp but across textiles and décor.

Quality & Sustainability

Because our fabrics are UK-printed and our pieces handmade in house, we keep control over quality at each step. Our products are designed to be more than just décor — they’re crafted pieces you’ll love.

We also offer fabric samples for UK customers (free of charge) so you can see and feel the material before committing — that’s part of our transparency and service.

Packaging & You

Once your piece is completed, it’s wrapped carefully, boxed and sent from our studio. You’re not just buying a product, you’re giving your home a story, a design personality and a little piece of handmade artistry.

Why It Matters

In a world of mass-production and fast furnishings, I believe there’s value in slow, thoughtful making. With Shadowbright you get:

  • A pattern designed by one person, produced locally
  • A handcrafted piece made in small scale
  • A product made with longevity (both in quality and design)
  • A home accessory that’s more characterful, more you.

What’s Next

I’m constantly sketching new designs and thinking about how to bring even more variety into our collection — whether new shapes, new accessories or deeper collaborations. If there’s something you’d like to see (maybe a matching lamp and cushion set? a bespoke lampshade for your space?) then I’d love to hear from you.
